7 Reasons to Drink Warm Water with Lemon Every Morning

Hello healthy friends!

Today I want to share my #1 wellness tip: drinking warm water with lemon first thing in the morning.

This is only one of my many morning rituals (I can’t wait to tell you about dry brushing), but in my opinion, it is THE most important daily practice (and the easiest).

So you’ve probably heard of people drinking ice water first thing in the morning to rev up their metabolisms, but I want you to forget that silly little idea. Ice water causes the intestines to contract, inhibiting digestion (think about what happens when things get cold). But waking up to a warm mug of H2O with lemon provides your tummy with a gentle hug and offers so many benefits… it’s really a shame more people don’t know about this!

Why you should start each day with warm water and lemon (in my order of preference):
1. Helps with weight loss
This fact alone was enough to hook me! Lemons contain substantial amounts of pectin fiber, which fight hunger cravings. Hello, sold!

2. Aids digestion
Warm water stimulates the gastrointestinal tract and helps to keep things moving. Additionally, lemon juice flushes toxins from the body. I've struggled with digestion issues my entire life and let me tell you, this little morning drink has changed my life!

3. Boosts the immune system
Everyone knows that lemons are high in Vitamin C, which fights off colds. Did you also know that lemons contain potassium, which stimulates brain and nerve function as well as controls blood pressure? Yep.

4. Balances pH
An alkaline body is the key to optimal health. Luckily, lemons are one of the most alkalizing foods and drinking lemon water can help remove overall acidity in the body.

5. Serves as a natural diuretic
Lemon juice aids the body in flushing out unwanted toxins. The citric acid in lemons helps to maximize enzyme function, stimulating the liver and aiding in detoxification. Everyone loves a good detox.

6. Clears skin
Who doesn’t want clear skin? The Vitamin C in lemons helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes while flushing toxins from the blood, keeping skin clear from the inside out.

7. Hydrates the lymph system
Hydration is key, and warm water with lemon prevents dehydration and adrenal fatigue. When your body is deprived of water, you can feel tired, sluggish, constipated, etc. So do yourself a favor and support your immune system with this warm hug first thing in the morning.

Want to give it a try?
Simply squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a mug of warm water. Enjoy!

I’ll share how I pair this ritual with dry brushing for optimal results soon!

Thanks for stopping by!
