Wellness Wednesday: Natural Deodorant

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

Let's talk deodorant! I've had a lot of people ask me about my under arm preferences, so I thought I'd share my favorite and least favorite options today!

First, what's the difference between antiperspirant and deodorant?

  • Antiperspirant prevents perspiration from occurring.
  • Deodorant allows perspiration but blocks odor by killing the bacteria that causes stink.
  • Deodorant is the more natural option.

Now, why should I avoid traditional antiperspirants and deodorants?

The standard antiperspirant and deodorant contains an average of 15 chemicals, with the most alarming ingredient being aluminum, a known neurotoxin.

Aluminum has been associated with:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Bone Disorders
  • Kidney Problems

Not only is aluminum dangerous, many antiperspirants and deodorants contain synthetic fragrances which are known to cause irritation of the skin, eyes, and lungs as well as headaches, dizziness, and respiratory problems.

Once I became aware of these things, I switched to more natural and "green" alternatives.

Now you can go all hippie and make your own deodorant, but I just don't have time for that!

I'll start with my favorite option, the one I've been using for a few years now:

I personally prefer LAVANILA in Lavender.

Yes, it's a little pricey at $14, but the most effective

It's free of:

  • Aluminum
  • Mineral Oils
  • Parabens

My least favorite options (ones that made me sweaty and smelly):

What are your favorite natural deodorants?
